MONKEY

Monkeys are among the most intelligent and social animals in the world! With over 260 species, they range in size from the tiny pygmy marmoset (just 100 grams) to the large mandrill (up to 35 kg).

These clever primates use tools, solve complex problems, and have sophisticated communication systems. Some species even use medicinal plants to treat injuries and illnesses! Their opposable thumbs and prehensile tails (in some species) make them expert climbers.

Monkeys live in complex social groups called troops, with strong family bonds, grooming rituals, and even their own "politics"! They spend hours each day grooming each other, which helps maintain social bonds and remove parasites.

Visit our playful monkeys at pen M7, near the primate jungle gym. They're most active during our feeding times at 9:00am and 1:30pm!
