GIRAFFE

Giraffes are the tallest mammals on Earth, with males reaching heights up to 5.5 meters (18 feet)! Their most distinctive feature is their incredibly long neck, which contains only seven vertebrae - the same number as humans!

Each giraffe has a unique coat pattern, much like a human fingerprint. No two giraffes have the same spot pattern. These spots also help regulate body temperature, with blood vessels located beneath each spot releasing heat.

Despite their height, giraffes are surprisingly fast runners, capable of reaching speeds up to 60 km/h over short distances. They only need 5-30 minutes of sleep per day, usually taking quick power naps while standing up!

📍 WHERE WILL YOU FIND THEM

You will find the giraffes at pen G8, near the African savannah exhibit. You can feed them during our daily feeding sessions at 11:00am and 2:30pm!
